Product Type Breakdown

Canvas Rolled - The artwork is an original artwork by the artist (acrylic on canvas) and will be delivered rolled in a tube. Note that a rolled canvas has to be stretched before it can be displayed or mounted on a wall. A rolled canvas option is ideal if you want more freedom to plan the stretching and framing of your painting.

Canvas Stretched- The canvas is wrapped with .75″ or 1.5″ premium wood stretcher bars so you are able to hang it on a wall immediately. This option is ideal if you want a ready to hang painting delivered at your doorstep. These custom-built stretcher bars prevent crinkles during handling and shipping.

Framed The painting is stretched and custom framed to enhance the beauty of the artwork. We begin by adding a white “liner". A liner is made by wrapping a small wood frame in fabric. The liner creates a nice separation between the painting and the frame. Then, we add a quality wood frame of your choice. You can choose from three contemporary classic options: walnut, mahogany, or simple black. This option is ideal if you want to bring out the best in your newly acquired artwork and skip your local frame shop completely.

About The Artist

Damola Ayegbayo is a Nigerian artist born to a teacher and a farmer in 1988. Inspired by his grandfather, who was a painter and a sculptor, Ayegbayo became interested in art at a young age. After graduating from university, he knew that he wanted to become an artist full-time.

Ayegbayo’s style of painting is known as ÀBÈFÉ, which is an expressionist style of art that means “pleaded to be loved” in the artist’s native language. Many of his paintings feature strong black women painted in vibrant colors to create something that is meaningful and attractive.

“The concept of using black women is a reference to my loving mother and the role other women have played in my life. An image of a black beautiful woman always reminds me of how my strong mother trained and brought me up with love and good morals. She helped me discover my real self,” he says.

Product Description

Nigerian artist Damola Ayegbayo employs his signature ÀBÈFÉ style (“pleaded to be loved” in the artist’s native tongue, the style employs the use of bright colors to bring to light the beauty of black women) to juxtapose the faces of two women - one black with bold red lipstick and one bursting with color - as they stand in harmony next to one another’s. Their eyes are closed in deep meditation. “Strength in Diversity,” as Ayegbayo calls his piece, is just that - strength in knowing that we are more powerful together than we could ever be apart.
