Voice of Liberty

It may not always be easy, but at times it is necessary. Damola Ayegbayo’s “Voice of Liberty” speaks to the fire (perhaps even fury) within each and every one of us. There is no time for pondering or convenience when there is a world in desperate need of repair and the virtue of justice in desperate need of being sought. Passion burns through our protagonist’s expression as inner strength and valor take over.

About The Artist

Damola Ayegbayo is a Nigerian artist born to a teacher and a farmer in 1988. Inspired by his grandfather, who was a painter and a sculptor, Ayegbayo became interested in art at a young age. After graduating from university, he knew that he wanted to become an artist full-time.

Ayegbayo’s style of painting is known as ÀBÈFÉ, which is an expressionist style of art that means “pleaded to be loved” in the artist’s native language. Many of his paintings feature strong black women painted in vibrant colors to create something that is meaningful and attractive.

“The concept of using black women is a reference to my loving mother and the role other women have played in my life. An image of a black beautiful woman always reminds me of how my strong mother trained and brought me up with love and good morals. She helped me discover my real self,” he says.
